Pocket Tunes catalog for the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch numbers in the tens of thousands of stations...and we are adding more daily!! So I wanted to give you an idea of some of the stations we've added lately. Below is a sample of the over 1,000 stations added in the past few weeks. They are organized by Group. Remember that you can Show/Hide any Group you want. So if you do not see one of the Groups listed here, it may be set on your device to be hidden. We also recently added all the RoadRunner Radio stations. These stations are only available to RoadRunner subscribers, they cannot be played unless you are using a RoadRunner data connection. If you are a RoadRunner subscriber, you can find the RoadRunner stations by going to the search tab and entering "RR Radio" into the search window. That will show you all the RoadRunner Radio channels in Group order.

Also, if you looked for a particular station and did not find it, take a look again as it may have since been added.

Multitasking, traffic and family peace

I love GPS apps. Specifically I really like MotionX GPS Drive. I paid for a year's voice guidance and it works great. But after this weekend I'm loving it even more with iOS4 and multitasking.

I should note that I send all the iPhone audio to the stereo through Bluetooth so if I listen to a radio station, it is through the iPhone most times rather than the AM or FM band.

Apple just approved our latest update, 5.5.4, of Pocket Tunes which adds multitasking. I've been using this release for a while now but this weekend showed me a new, cool use for it....keeping the peace....oh and getting my family through some crazy traffic.

It all starts with living in a city that is hosting a major world event and thus completely messing up us locals. I needed to get my wife to a train station which I'd never been to, without getting caught in 'rolling closures' and insane traffic jams that were going on around town.

I needed both MotionX to tell me where to go and my local News/Traffic station to tell me where not to go.

Solution? Easy! I put my local station on in Pocket Tunes and then fired up MotionX. Pocket Tunes kept playing in the background as MotionX launched. When the voice guidance spoke, Pocket Tunes muted down very low, when it was finished, Pocket Tunes came back up to regular volume.

So I had both voice directions and traffic updates at the same time, working together without an issue. And, I got my wife to the station on time, family peace maintained.

Super Bowl listening guide

Sometimes you're just anywhere near a 52 inch surround sound uber media extravaganza. So how can Pocket Tunes Radio help you to keep up with the game?

Well we made it easy to connect to stations that may carry the game. We say "may" because even if a station has the broadcast rights , they may not have the streaming rights for Internet Radio.

So what we have done is added tags for all the Saints and Colts affiliates that stream on the Internet. We have also added a tag "Super Bowl". In addition, Westwood One is the radio network carrying the Super Bowl radio broadcast so we added a tag to the Westwood One stations that we know of. S

Here is how to access those stations. But first we have to emphasize that not all stations will have the streaming rights even when they have the broadcast rights. So you may have to try a few stations before you find one that is streaming the game. That is something beyond our control as it is each individual station that determines whether it will be blacking out the game on the Internet or not.

So first update your catalog: http://bit.ly/eA5vu .

That will ensure you have the additions we made.

Now go to the search tab and enter whichever of the following search terms suits you, you can include the quotes or not, it won't matter unless noted.

Enter "Saints", you will get all the stations that are listed as affiliate stations for the Saints broadcast

Enter "Colts" to get the Colts affiliates.

Enter "Super Bowl" (in quotes) to get all stations that are affiliates of either Super Bowl team

Enter "Westwood One" (in quotes) to get all Westwood One stations.

We recommend starting with the stations in the Sports or Talk groups so scroll down your results to that area and pick a station. If it plays the broadcast, you're set, if it doesn't, go to the next station and repeat until you find a station that plays the game on the net.

Station Of The Week: Dynamic FreeForm Indie Radio / WDYN.net

It's great to listen to a station that is as enthusiastic about the music they play as you are to listen to it. Dynamic FreeForm Indie Radio is one of those stations. It's a very cool Indie station that plays a wide range of great Indie music from all over the world and from local Rochester, NY area artists.

I always love to see stations where the DJs are passionate about the music they play and they definitely are at Dynamic. "FreeForm" is definitely the word here as you can go from Bluegrass to Metal faster than the speed of sound and that's what makes it fun. And also keeps it from being boring. You won't hear anything you've heard two too many times before, but you definitely will hear some things you want to hear many more times.

So give them a listen and you just might find something you never knew you liked.

Station Of The Week: Yahoo! Lil' Kidz Tunes

Yes, I have Lil' Kidz and don't get me started talking about them because I won't/can't stop.

I recently played the station 'Yahoo! Lil' Kidz Tunes' from the Family group in Pocket Tunes.

They love music. They have a "band" that "performs" occasionally and in their dad's opinion, sounds better than any concert he's ever been to. (Even if I don't have any idea what they are playing. Nor do they, but that's the fun of it).

Lately they have discovered 'Yahoo! Lil' Kidz Tunes'. I played them the station a few days ago and since then they have requested it umpteen times. My oldest is 5 and is particular to the Chipmunks (the new Hip-Hop version, though he likes the old Chipmunks Christmas Song). But he seems to want to learn new stuff so he is getting into 'Yahoo! Lil' Kidz Tunes' and hearing things he's never heard before. Yahoo does a good job of putting together a playlist that engages him for a decent amount of time (no small feat). And if you have ever had kids that get hooked on one song or album, it's sooooo nice to hear something else coming form the stereo.

My 3 year old loves the station too but he's a little less picky. As long as he can dance to it, it's cool with him. This is someone who will dance to the telephone ringing so pretty much anything they play rocks his world.

So if you are looking to change things up for your kids, look in the family group in Pocket Tunes and tap on 'Yahoo! Lil' Kidz Tunes' or any other of the Family stations in there.

iPhone/touch customers, 'Yahoo! Lil' Kidz Tunes' will play in the background with the latest version of Pocket Tunes Radio (5.3.0) so make sure you update to the latest version.

This weeks S.O.T.W. is YRock on XPN. If you're into the Alternative music side of things, this is one great station! Especially if you are looking for something new. I don't think I've ever been disappointed tuning into YRock. Always something interesting and worth listening to.

So check it out in the Alternative section of Pocket Tunes for Palm and Windows Mobile and Pocket Tunes Radio for the iPhone/iPod touch.

Station Of The Week: Mission Control by SomaFM

S.O.T.W.: Mission Control by SomaFM

I'm a bit of a Space Geek, I admit it. And I like to listen to Ambient/Techno/Chill type music while I work.

Well SomaFM has combined those two things:

NASA + Ambient cool vibe tracks = Mission Control

The station takes live NASA audio and overlays it on top of cool Ambient music. Very different and very cool. Well, at least if you are a space geek/ambient chill kinda person.

Heck even if you're not, there's a shuttle mission happening right now and it's kinda cool to give a listen int to what they are up to. As I write this the shuttle crew is about to start their day which includes a space walk. Lots of fun!

Mission Control is a new station in the "Ambient" group.

Station Of The Week: Demented Radio

Everyone needs a little (lot!?) comedy in their life right? Even though a large number of the stations in our catalog are music, we do have other formats like Comedy, Talk etc. And right now, thanks to Demented Radio from our Comedy group, I'm listening to Leonard Nemoy doing "Music To Watch Space Girls By"...okay maybe 'thanks' is not the word. Variety sure is though. They play a ton of things from all over. Not straight stand up stuff but also musical comedy and other 'not so standard' comedy bits. So what are you waiting for? The SKY.fm group of stations are great. They have a ton of variety and one of my favorites is "SKY World Music" in the World group of Pocket Tunes. It's a great station to tune in when you are looking for something different and maybe unexpected.

Station Of The Week: Groove Salad

"A nicely chilled plate of ambient beats and grooves."

One of the great things about my job is that I HAVE to listen to music all day long. So I get to listen to a lot of stations and one of the ones I always come back to is Groove Salad from Somafm.com. They always play great ambient/chill/electronic/etc. songs that are great to have on when you have to work. Not they are uninteresting, there is a lot of great music with a ton of ear candy to hear. But the songs allow you to choose your level of involvment. Need to work? Let your sub-conciuous groove while you focus on that gazzilion line spreadsheet. Need a break? Immerse yourself in the ambient beats and let your ears drink in the sumptuous tones of the sonic salad.

If you've never listened to 'ambient beats and grooves', Groove Salad is a great place to start. If you like that type of music then Grroove Salad is one of the best. So go to the "Dance/House" section of Pocke Tines and load up Groove Salad and get back to that gazzilion line spreadsheet.
